Tube ideas part I

I’ve seen some cool things on the tube. If I hadn’t written them down I would of probably forgotten so its cool I did.
I will expose myself now and show my secret notes in spanglish:

During one of my tube rides I remembered gusanitos. A gusanito is a carnival ride that can be a roller coaster or a long car that travels through the streets. In english the name would be “little worm”, its very common in South America and I loved it so much when I was a child.

This is an example of a roller coaster gusanito and it’s classic design. A not so fun fact is that this google image is from an article titled “Gusanito derails in Chone (a town) leaving 5 people injured” … well

so fun

Another cool thing that I saw was a very goth dude with creepers and bad-ass dark makeup (straight out of a Tim Burton pic) holding his mask and put on chapstick really quickly on the central line. I would like to draw this sometime but the time is not now πŸ™‚

I also saw a fun sequence of a man chewing gum wearing no mask on the pink line. The gum fell off his mouth unintentionally and he looked down on it, kind of embarrassed but unwilling to pick it up (as one does). He got off on the next stop and I focused on the gum stuck on the tube’s floor. I looked at it intensely. I found it very funny. Then a man walked by and stepped on it and took it on his journey. That was extra funny. I would like to animate that interaction one day. But again, that time is not now πŸ™‚

I love remembering these visuals from my childhood that are very interesting from a foreign pov, and I like the potential these things have in future films to connect audiences from different places. I also like to pay attention to mundane things a lot more, and appreciate very much how observant I am, even when I’m not wearing glasses.

London adventures pt IV: Museums

I went to the tate modern and came across Guerilla Girls’s work. I had no idea what this collective was about but really enjoyed their pieces.

Love the typography work and layout. Graphic design is very hard so I admire such clean uses of type and space. Amazing.

This piece is called Selected Wall Collages by Mary Beth Edison. I thought the character design in them was mindballing, creepy and very cool. That looks like a very cool technique to tryout when character creating. Cool stuff!
This was the jewelry at the V&A Museum. Once again I am questioning myself if will ever be rich. Jokes aside, I am fascinated by the light and sparkles in these exquisite creations. I loved how the sparkles translated into the camera just like my eye saw them (didn’t think that would happen) and how they sparkled in different colors like a rainbow. Very delightful images. I then walked to the pret and got a free hot chocolate. Luxurious.

I’d really like to integrate sparkles in my animations, these particles that remind me of anime girly scenes screencap, sailor moon and screenshot - image #6285824 on Favim.com

Light

Abbie Sofi and I went to the LUX exhibition at the grand. The theme of the exhibitions was LIGHT! They had really cool LG sponsorships as well, nice.

this was me at a soft red part of the exhibition. I felt and looked like the michelin man

me

This was a really cool piece. I’m very drawn to this palette of colors. It was a 3D rendered scan and the model’s body transformed into a seahorse. Rad!

My favorite piece was Hito Steyerl’s This is the Future. I love experiencing and making multimedia art so I particularly enjoyed this show. The short film was the best bit, I love when films make the audience embody the characters perspective and create an immersive world and environment, you know that kind of experience you get walking out of the cinema after an awesome movie and you feel like the main character.
This 3D walk cycle was really cool. I forgot some of the artist’s names tho. Sorry to this man.

London adventures pt III: Animols

There sure are a lot of ducks and associated in this city. It’s amazing. Here are some ducks and associate images:

This was at Hyde Park. Right before I could record it, a medium sized dog went into the water where all the associates were getting bread and made some splashes. Their owner got him out, it was very lovely. Now it lives only in my memory

Now this is a Pomeranian husky mix. Never seen anything quite like this dog. Fascinating.

I also saw a fox for the first time. I imagined them more wolf like, but they’re like medium sized dogs as well. Wanted my chicken.

Very cute!

This thicc boy’s name is Gaston, I met him at Kitchair where I got a haircut. Very pretty place, everything looks like a Barbie dreamhouse. Didn’t take any pictures because I thought it would be creepy πŸ™‚ I like how the last doggos and non doggos made eye contact with me. Feeling blessed.

Puppetry

My stop mo friends joke that I make puppets quickly, I honestly think I’m just very anxious and was traumatized in my BA and career as a graphic designer that everything must be done QUICK11!1! I really enjoy making puppets, specially clay ones. These are my children

When animating clay shoes are not ideal. Next time she gets real dr. martens

This is my other child. No name yet but misses his mom very much.

London adventures part II: The Streets

My first weeks here I did a hella lot of walking. Mostly because the tube scared me and because I like walking. It’s too cold now to do that but anyways

I found this sign funny because DiversiΓ³n in Spanish translates to “fun” so, here is where the fun ends.

I’ve walked through what I understand now as posh areas wondering if I’ll ever be wealthy enough to afford a flat in such places (or a flat for myself only). I looked at these lives so different from mine and said to myself in my head “started from the bottom… started from the bottom”. I’ve found myself wanting a lot of stuff here. Starting from the bottom can be harsh I guess.

My only friend that I know here from my country is moving to Madrid, so I went to her place in Chelsea to pick up some stuff she was selling and to say bye. My friend Sol is independent, really pretty and incredibly smart (a lawyer). Although I do not consider myself someone with these qualities (mostly because I compare myself too harshly which I know is terrible but it still happens) I admire her a lot and I wish to be as cool as her in the next years of my life.

I came back home feeling hopeful yet a bit melancholic. Is this what they call seasonal depression?

Anyways, here are some abandoned items at the tube to lighten up the mood

Textures

I was looking for vinyl textures online while designing a poster for work. As they all require money I remembered our house’s trash bags are black and shiny. I took some pics with my cellphone and edited them in photoshop

that was cool πŸ™‚ I also really appreciated this sprinkled icing in Jess’s bday cake:

I think this ended up inspiring my clay puppet

gouache

This is a scene from the wind rises i found on pinterest. This was the first time I tried gouache. Still don’t know how to spell nor pronounce it! I love t he watercolor oil mix. I started with terrible brushes that got stuck on the paper and paint, then i bought better ones πŸ™‚

another pinterest image. Very calming activity.
